VPN Reactor Free INTRODUCTION

VPN Reactor provides free PPTP which is enabled by the OS of your computer as VPN Reactor does not provide any software of its own. VPN Reactor has a small network of servers with no server switching.

The standard PPTP application does not protect against the dropping of your internet connection and is missing the most basic features. PPTP is widely regarded as being far less secure than OpenVPN and its weaknesses have been exploited widely by hackers, including the fundamental weakness that it is only as secure as the password chosen. Today, distributed attacks against passwords are generally feasible. PPTP has seen a decline in use. Our recommendation is to switch to OpenVPN.

• No automatic choice of fastest server (lowest latency)
• Dynamic IPs and Static IPs not available
• Poor support

From Order to Installation: ★★½☆☆

With VPN Reactor your free account is up and running in a few minutes. The only problem is that you have to install this using your own OS and there is no separate software application.

The installation process begins from your control panel from where you click on ‘Network and Internet’:

Next click on Connect to a network and then click on Setup a connection or network:

best-free-vpn

Next, connect to a workplace – set up a VPN connection to your workplace:

Next click – Use my Internet connection (VPN):

Next you enter the server information you received from VPN Reactor. This is the internet address of VPN Reactor’s servers. In destination name you can enter the name of the connection which will then show up in the ‘Connect to a network’ screen when you have completed the process. Also don’t forget to click, ‘Don’t connect now, just set it up so I can connect later’.

In the next screen, enter your VPN account username and password, and then click ‘Create’:

This will cause the following connection is ready to use screen to come up:

Then go back to your control panel and click on a network again and click on the VPN Reactor connection and click ‘Connect’ and you should have a PPTP connection.

Software/GUI: ½☆☆☆☆

There is no Software/GUI, you can only use your OS with PPTP.

Ease of Use: ★½☆☆☆

As this is the standard PPTP application, it is not very user friendly. It cannot be automated for startup of the computer and requires some 5 clicks to start each time. One always has to re-choose the server. If one needs to restart this application a couple of times a day, it’s tiresome.

Features: ½☆☆☆☆

Other than the connection PPTP has no features.

Server Network, Availability & Speed ★★☆☆☆

This service has a small network with servers only in the USA.

Initially I connected with the USA server and the ping time for this server was with 40% latency compared to other VPN servers. Free services tend to be both slow and blacklisted for SPAM. Generally free services are not usable. You get what you pay for.

Presale Support to Product Help & Support ★☆☆☆☆

Presale support and Post-sale support is done by browser email. I was not able to send a mail to them because all my email accounts were rejected! “Sender address rejected”- This was the first time I received such an error in our reviews. Perhaps you will have better luck, but since there is no alternative contact, VPN Reactor does not get my thumbs up.

Scope of Protection:

Protocols: ★☆☆☆☆

Utilizing standard PPTP protocols, VPN Reactor changes your IP and provides you with a single assigned IP from any of its servers. VPN Reactor does not provide you with the choice between Dynamic IP Servers and Static IP servers which is very useful for use with PayPal accounts and Credit Card vendors.

This is the weakest of the current encrypted connection protocols and not advised for use as it has been regularly hacked through password attacks and via the IPv6 channel.

Protocols: PPTP utilizing the OS of your computer
The VPN Tunnel is a single static IP address shared by all users of VPNReactor.

VPN Reactor cannot support IPv6 because one of the main attacks for seeing originating IPs with PPTP is through IPv6. So you have to have IPv6 turned off and only use IPv4.

Encryption: Pending Test

Encryption Strength Specified: 128 Bit

The effectiveness of any VPN provider is dependent on how effective is the encryption. Our independent encryption Test of VPN Reactor is in process and will be posted here when completed.

The VPN Tunnel is a single static IP address shared by all users of VPNReactor.

Server Security: Pending Test

To be independently tested pending permission from VPN Reactor.

Privacy: ★½☆☆☆

VPN Reactor states that it does not keep logs at the home page: Total Privacy, no records of your internet activities are kept, but it is a US based service in Florida and states in its TOS: “The Service is meant to provide the Customer with increased protection, but in no way is the Service guaranteed to provide the Customer with complete privacy. And VPNReactor collects your personal information to ensure your account will be used for SPAM, hacking or anything in breach of their TOS”

VPN Reactor states that it has the right to disclose personal and data a usage logs if:
1. You are in violation of the TOS
2. SPAM
3. Court order
4. Abuse

So the Privacy Policy and TOS contradict what is stated in the site – that they don’t keep logs. They do collect personal information to protect themselves and to be in conformity with US laws. But that they mislead users by stating that the service doesn’t keep records is misleading. They very much do and state so both in their TOS and privacy policy.

This is the same problem that all US based VPN services have – the conflict between privacy and US law. Keep in mind that VPN providers that are based in the USA cannot protect your data as it is transmitted across their servers. By definition a court order in can force VPN Reactor to log, cache and submit any information to local and international authorities not withstanding VPN Reactor’s current Privacy Policy to the contrary (which is not helpful to the user in any event because VPN Reactor states it would hand over your personal information for various reasons).
