HideYourIPAddress INTRODUCTION
HideYourIPAddress proxy software is from the founders of the IP-Adress.com (leading IP tracing site worldwide) providing minimal privacy on the Internet by changing your IP Address only. This is not a VPN but a proxy service. HideYourIPAddress serves you with new proxies and says that they do so every hour by scanning thousands of proxy servers and claims to provide fast and secure proxies. HideYourIPAddress system allows you to change your IP anytime with one click while promising 99.9% uptime and total anonymous identity online.

As a proxy, this service cannot provide total anonymity as a proxy service only. Although it changes your IP, all of the data sent can be sniffed and read and your originating IP and data read or stolen online.

I ran and tested the 3-day trial of HideYourIPAddress software and checked the servers provided. In fact, this service could be a criminal enterprise and put the user in some liability with blacklisted IPs and probably unauthorized/hijacked server usage. In our test, we determined that they are likely using hijacked servers without the permission of the server owners (University of Tokyo, Rackspace, University of Taiwan, Anchor Free VPN, etc. – Universities are the usual targets for proxy hijacking). Should the unaware user be caught on a network illegally using University servers or major hosting companies like Rackspace (who have clear TOS restrictions against the use of their servers for any proxy use), the user should be aware that he could be sued for criminal activity. So user beware!

Review Summary

Get an ethical service that won’t put you at risk and at the highest price in the industry. For this money you could get 5 VPN services and would be better off getting an account with one of the best VPN services. It will be cheaper, faster, have better functionality, full protection of all your internet communications and not only browsing, full control over IP switching with possibility to connect to the same IP if you need or want to. Choose strong encryption, a good server network, ethical business practices, good support, and a clear PP and TOS. Know that your identity is in good hands. Best VPN providers also compress your data which results in faster data transmission speed; you don’t even notice the difference in speed. Further you are probably utilizing a University server or third party server that has been criminally taken over by HideYourIPAddress and you don’t want to be party to a crime.

HideYourIPAddress PROS:
• Easy to use
• It does change your IP
• Real IP is not revealed on an accidental loss of connection

HideYourIPAddress CONS:
• Could be a criminal enterprise and put the user in serious liability with the blacklisted IPs and probably hijacked servers
• Substantial speed loss
• No protection for anything beyond just browsing
• No control over IPs assigned
• No encryption
• IPs served banned on forums for spamming
• Unclear business ethics
• Buggy software
• Price: 79.95 USD per year

Ease of Installation
All things considered, HideYourIPAddress was straightforward to download and install. No personal data submission was required at download. The installation process took under 3 minutes, and didn’t require restart. No additional setup of configuration was required.

The welcome screen informed me that I had a choice to purchase a full version or continue evaluating the 3-day trial version.

Ease of Use
HideYourIPAddress software is incredibly simple to use. Both beginners and advanced users should have no problem understanding how to operate the program.

More importantly, users who just need the software to change their IP address without much intervention will also have no trouble simply letting HideYourIPAddress run in the background. Just press Start button and let the program do its thing. By default HideYourIPAddress is set to run at startup and change your IP address every 10 minutes.

Features
HideYourIPAddress software comes equipped with some tools to guards your online privacy. It doesn’t only allow you to change the Firefox proxy, but it also runs full PC privacy cleanup every time you start the program. It’s easy to select and deselect what private data stored on your computer you want to delete. You can also select the desired level of proxy security and speed.

The program allows you to not only use thousands of proxy servers in the HideYourIPAddress system but also add your own list of proxies. The HideYourIPAddress system then automatically scans all the proxy servers and delivers the fastest available.

All the functions of HideYourIPAddress software can be reached with one click from the taskbar. Change IP Now function allows you to seamlessly change your IP address whenever you want to.

Server Speed
HideYourIPAddress significantly affects speed of connection. Whereas the indicator of connection speed in the HideYourIPAddress software kept showing “Fast”, browsing speed is significantly affected (up to 60% speed reduction) when you are automatically connected to remote locations like Japan or Taiwan. Connection to Palestine resulted in total loss of connectivity.

Effectiveness
HideYourIPAddress guards your online privacy by serving your system with the fastest proxy available in the system at a time and changing your IP Address. Hiding behind a proxy does indeed change the IP which identifies you on the internet.
On an accidental loss of internet connection your real IP address is not revealed – the moment your connection is back, you are back to surfing behind your proxy.

HideYourIPAddress doesn’t change your browser agent information for full anonymity. Neither does it encrypt your http queries:

No possibility to choose the IP which you are connecting to – the IPs are served automatically and you don’t have much of control over your virtual location. Even forced IP change (Change IP Now function) often results in connection to the same geographical location. When testing the system, I was automatically connected not only to such locations as US and UK, but also to Japan, France, Germany, Spain, Taiwan, Singapore and moreover to Ukraine, Thailand, China, Nigeria and Palestine! Do you really want to accidentally appear to be coming from these latter locations?

Servers you are connected though obviously don’t belong to HideYourIPAddress as most of the re-connections serves you servers of the AnchorFree in the US and Canada.

Other attempts to force change of IP address resulted in connections through servers, which according to the host information; belong to the University of Tokyo Faculty of Letters and the Chaing Mai Uninet (inter-university network).

It is highly unlikely that HideYourIPAddress is authorized to connect you to some/all the IPs it connects you to. Most of the time HideYourIPAddress served me IP addresses of AnchorFree which is the world’s leading free ad-supported VPN provider utilized by millions of people in over 190 countries. It’s not clear why HideYourIPAddress utilizes it when charging you $79.95 but appears to be shady at best.
Other times I was connected through various university networks.
Once I found myself connected through a RackSpace server, which strictly prohibits use of their servers as proxies.

This raises the question whether HideYourIPAddress is conducting ethical business practices when building their database or proxy servers or is a criminal scam.
The Chinese IPs (219.232.238.56) and many other IPs served to you are banned in forums for spam.
Most of the servers you are automatically connected to don’t have reverse DNS, and therefore it’s impossible to tell whom the servers belong to and most importantly what kind of privacy policy is implemented. There is no possibility to tell whether your sessions (including your real IP address and content you are loading or accessing) are logged or monitored.
No possibility to tell who operates the server you are connected to. What if they log your passwords, personal data, IP, communications?

Additional
A couple of bugs were found: starting HideYourIPAddress software without exiting the previously launched session results in program running multiple processes in the tray simultaneously.

Another observation made is that your new “fake” IP address the GUI shows you is not always correct. For example, in the case below the GUI indicated that I was connected to a US IP, but the IP check (powered by the same provider!) showed that my connection was coming from AnchorFree (yet again) in Canada.
